Plumbago flower with a textured overlay.
Plumbago, also known as Cape Plumbago or Sky flower, is one of the most popular small flowering shrubs in Florida. This plant native of South Africa produces attractive blue flowers during most of the year and can often be seen covering the embankments of overpasses around central Florida. The name Plumbago comes from a Latin word meaning lead. This plant was once used to treat lead poisoning.
Blooming occurs during much of the year, and the flowers have a slight fragrance.
