Lovejoy Covered Bridge 2bw
Photograph - Photograph
( Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved ) Our New England State of Maine once had about 120 covered wooden bridges crossing small streams or rivers. Sadly today, there are only less than a dozen left standing. I found this one in Oxford County near South Andover on Covered Bridge Road. It was built in 1867 at a cost of only $ 743.47 and is a single span of the Paddleford Truss style. It also has the distinction of being Maine's shortest covered bridge as it crosses the Ellis River at a length of only 76 feet. Named after a family home located on the east bank of the river, they called it the ... Lovejoy Covered Bridge.
