In 1955 Sir Bernard Lovell constructed the then-largest steerable radio telescope in the world, which now bears his name - the Lovell Telescope. Nearly 50 years later, it remains one of the foremost radio telescopes in the world.
While many astronomers continue to look far and deep into space with their modern telescopes, discovering new planets and stars, one must also wonder also about the vast unknowns we have not yet discovered on our own planet.
