Description
Lucy has been attracting tourists to Margate, New Jersey since the building was erected in 1881. It's architect James Lafferty came up with this idea as a means to attract customers to his real-estate parcels. These could be viewed from atop Lucy. There are two narrow spiral staircases within the legs. And another to to the hathi howdah or observation platform on top.
Many including myself though it had been used as a hotel. But not so.
Sixty-five feet and six stories high, Lucy has survived hurricanes, wars, depressions, multiple owners, a move, and often neglect. Currently she is a National Historic Landmark. She was constructed of wood, nails, and tin sheeting.
Has 22 windows. And weighs about 90 tons.
Lucy is currently enjoying a pampered and well deserved rest by the sea. Loved by many.

Congratulations on your sale!
Ira Shander replied:
Sunil, Thank-you for taking the time to comment and wish me well. I was just looking at your pages and was astounded at the beauty and poetry in your work. I kept feeling that each photo would open up into a story to be told. I love the light and color, as well as the abstract leanness. Thank-you again.
