Description
I redid my other 2012 Madonna with a younger child sitting in her lap. As mentioned before, hair was to be tied back in those days, not loose (as was the custom of prostitutes) and cloth was hand loomed and generally died with natural wild plant dies. French Marine Blue was not a color dye available to Mary, but was chosen by the 13th and 14th Century artists as a royal color as it was extremely expensive and only affordable by an elite few. I left Mary's clothes white (most cotton, linen and wool came in white, and still does in fact) and used a common weed dye color (fireweed in my area gives this color) which was probably easily available to them. Boys and men were often seen in striped robes (very easy loom pattern). Women were expected to wear head scarves in Temple and men did not wear them, but might have hoods or prayer scarves.
