Mushrooms also called toadstools have a mystery about them. Thats why they are a subject of many fairytales, including stories about witches and magic powers. Hunting in the woods for mushrooms is an exciting experience, especially for children conjuring up folkloric stories of elves, trolls and goblins. Certain types of mushrooms can produce extremely powerful experiences of visions and hallucinations . This may account for their popularity in folklore and some of their names such as 'Witches' Broom'. Certain cultures use them to produce visionary and religious experiences thought to bringing them in communion with spirits and fairies. Fairy rings were results of the growth of ring patterns of mushrooms. They were considered magical or satanic depending on the culture of the region.
