What an odd and interesting cactus. It's like some kind of monolith. What a great shot!

Debi, thank you so much for your compliment. The saguaro cactus is a pretty rare type of cactus in that it is only found in Arizona around the southern section. Mostly in Tucson with a few extending northward toward Phoenix. They grow to be several tons in weight and I have seen some to be over 20 tall. They can live for several hundred years. They are amazing. This one photo has even a very rare one with the "stunted" top . There are very few of these in existence.

Description:

Saguaro cactus. The oldest and largest cactus in the world. They can live to be several hundred years old. Weigh several thousand pounds and can be more than 20 feet tall. This one particular saguaro is very rare in it's stunted growth. They only occur naturally in Arizona. The saguaro on the far right has a black hole in it towards the top, That is the nesting place of a cactus wren (bird).
