Description:

Contemporary mammoth tusk fossil ivory netsuke featuring Ema-O, the Hell's God, riding on a boat that actually is a Japanese straw sandal. Signed on the right thigh with 2 characters. The mammoth tusk fossil ivory is free of any restrictions for international trade, in contrast to the elephant tusk ivory carvings. Provenance: Dr. Mircea Veleanu's netsuke's collection, the author of the collectors textbook: "Netsuke".
