Mangrove river. Aerial photograph of a river that is flowing through a mangrove forest covering each bank. Mangrove trees grow in shallow, muddy water along sheltered tropical and subtropical estuaries and coastlines. They have tangled masses of roots that help to bind mud particles together. By this binding process, mangrove trees help the formation of new land and also help prevent coastal erosion. Photographed on Ibo Island, Mozambique.
