Description:

Another opera inspired painting. I saw and was inspired by an HD streaming broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera's production of this Puccini opera. The final scene has the heroine stranded in an American desert (a stretch, I concede) where she and her lover perish to end the drama. She is still dressed in her finery in her desperation to feed the love of luxury that leads to her downfall. I tried to ignore her one-time beauty to show her fear and horror in facing such an unlikely end.
