Mardi Gras Artwork
IThis is a Mardi Gras image montage that I created the after becoming intrigued by the street signs that are often carved into the corner kerbs and of uptown streets in New Orleans. These old fashioned blue on white tiles are certainly part of the character all New Orleans, so much so that I felt it would be a good idea to combine these features with another famous facet of the culture of New Orleans - Mardi Gras.
To get this shot I decided to re-create a title with the name Mardi Gras but obviously there is no street with the name Mardi Gras, therefore, I had to digitally create the sign from various streets around the neighborhood in which I lived. I have to say that it would normally have been quite a long and laborious task to re-create the sign, but in this case it was actually quite fun.
I used a number of other images that I have taken from Mardi Gras parades to create the rest of the montage. This included other signature Mardi Gras sites including the green, purple and gold jester colours and, of course, the obligatory shots of party beads being thrown through the air. The background to this shot is actually the textured concrete slab surrounding the street tiles themselves. I purposely did not do much to change this as I felt it works well with helping the montage images to blend into each other.
