Measles virus particle. Cutaway computer artwork showing the internal and external structure of a measles (Morbillivirus sp.) virus particle (virion). The virion consists of RNA (ribonucleic acid, coloured spheres) genetic material surrounded by a lipid envelope (white spheres) with glycoproteins (coloured sticks) embedded in its surface. These surface proteins are used for recognising and binding to the host cell.
