Yes, would Hitler have been the same monster without schnurrbart? Would he have made this much impact on the German people... I don't know. I guess you could also call it "Evil without schnurrbart" or "Evil carisma" or "April 1 - fools day" or even "I don't dare to comment this one afraid of being burnt". When the money is there I certainly want you to do a painting of my favorite artist Edward Norton. Rutger Oosterhoff

Mein Schnurrbart

Painting - Acrylic On Stretched Canvas

20 April 1889 30 April 1945
The best of his paintings shows a war-torn streetscape -- a lamppost leaning away from a shrapnel-nicked brick building. the background reveals the facade of a gutted church, its purpose burned away. there is no one on the street; life has been chased, bombed, swept from this Belgian village where the soldier-artist found such devastation. The artist was good enough to make his living at this for some years. But he realized he was not going to make his mark as a painter. He changed careers and became far more successful in another line of work. His name was Adolf Hitler., - from the article the Art of Evil - for the Washington Post by - Marc Fisher
I find it interesting and personally necessary to strip away the facades that help to create, often intentionally, a character of fame. There is a European gallery that will not permit me to post my portrait of John Gotti but has accepted many of Hitler by other artists. Perhaps they would accept Gotti in his underwear and in a jail cell I don't know.
I can not help but wonder had a young Hitler the aspiring artist not been rejected by the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1907, many of the jurors of admission being Jewish, might not have pursued the peaceful life of a professional artist.
Never in our world history has it been more important to study of the makings of propagandist dictators now with the backing of weapons of mass destruction.
We must separate the monster behind the mustache and the teetotaler, anti-smoking, anti-drug and passionate artist and discover what fused them together. That dynamic we must be mindful of and address with urgency when history may have the opportunity to repeat itself.
