Description:
Mixografía® Workshop and Gallery is pleased to announce two new editions by American artist Terry Winters, opening January 30 and running through March 3, 2006. Renowned for paintings composed of intersecting lines in abstraction, Winters continues his exploration of the interconnected nature of the universe and its elements in the printed series, Disk I and Disk II.
Winters has been influenced by the Sci-Fi genre and the designs of visionary/architect Buckminster Fuller, who encouraged humanity’s reappraisal of its relationship to the physical universe. In the new series, planetary, or cell-like, drawings suggest an elevation to the physical.
A creative printmaker, Winters has taken advantage of the special capabilities and resources of the Mixografía® workshop, especially in regards to one of his prime interests: the ever deeper penetration of space. The series depicts one line constructed over another, successfully adding thickness to the silver-inked works.
While many might accept modernism as minimalistic and nearly exhausted, Winters believes in the future of abstraction and possibilities we have yet to see. Winters’ work is at once earthy, fundamental and raw, as it is abstracted, planetary and imperceptible. Winters is encouraged by the multiple readings and interpretations of his art and welcomes ambiguity.
The artist has created over 200 prints in the last two decades, and in 2005, the Colby College Museum of Art became the consummate repository including his printed editions from the Mixografía® Workshop.
