Description
Meteor Crater, near the city of Winslow, Arizona, measures three-quarters of a mile wide and 575 ft. deep. Windblown, silica-rich sands make red swirls in and near the crater in this TIMS image made from the air. The crater was created when a meteorite about 150 feet across struck the Earth about 50,000 years ago.
