Michael Faraday bust. British chemist and physicist Michael Faraday (1791-1867) made several major advances in the fields of chemistry, magnetism and electricity. He devised the first electric motor and equipment such as transformers and dynamos. He worked at the Royal Institution, London, where his lectures helped popularise science among the general public. In October 1914, a marble bust of Faraday was presented to the Institution of Electrical Engineers by Llewellyn Preece from the family of Sir William Preece, past president of the Institution.
