This portrait of Michelle Obama was made by Mickalene Thomas in 2008, and was done in the style of Andy Warhol's screenprints of famous people, such as Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Mohammed Ali, and many others. This stylish portrait shows a young and vibrant woman whom the artist playfully referred to as "Michelle O" when speaking about this work. (The reference is to "Jackie O", another young, vibrant and very stylish first lady who preceded Mrs. Obama by nearly fifty years). The portrait, which is a screenprint, was photographed at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum in Washington, D.C.
