Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of cells from the genus Mimosa (tropical herbs, shrubs and trees). The storage of starch is used to provide energy for the opening of leaves. The closing of leaves occurs when water is rapidly removed. The plant is supported by the turgidity of the plant cells when the cytoplasm is full of water. Magnification = 1320x.
