Description
Original Fine Art Photography and digital artwork by Donna Kennedy...
I used to have one of these trees in my backyard when I lived in Florida, I was happy to see them here in Arizona. I know they are an invasive plant, but I love them!! When you see them blooming, you know it's Summer :)
Mimosa-Latin name of the plant, "Mimosa pudica", originates from unusual habit of the plant to shrink its leaves when touched ("pudica" means "bashful"). Mimosa is also known as sensitive plant, humble plant, touch-me-not, sleeping grass and shameful plant. The flowers have a fluffy appearance due to large number of purple stamens, and blooms during the summer. The flowers, attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds, and colonial gardeners, range in color from nearly red to deep pink to flesh-pink to white.

Love these powder-puff flowers, Donna! And they're fragrant too, which doesn't show in the image.
