Minoan Labyrinth Knossos
Digital Art - Digital
The Labyrinth is one of the basic symbols of ancient Greek civilization. It has been a sacred site where ceremonies, initiations and sacrifices took place. The mythological labyrinth is connected to the Minotaur. My work enlightens the apollonian side of this dark, blood-soaked place where violence was forced upon numerous expiatory victims (in order to purify or save the local community from certain personal acts of behavior).
In the ancient Greek culture, even monsters such like Minotaur (who possesses also an opposite bright side as Asterios) have a right to exist as most of the time, even evil has the ability to produce something good. In other words, even ugly things can be formed – in the framework of universal harmony – through correlation and contradiction. In my opinion, the awesome geometrical structure of the Labyrinth, is a ultimate expression of the above idea.
