Mount Rainier As Viewed From The West
Photograph - Outdoor Color Photo Transportation And Landscapes And Landmarks
Mount Rainier, as viewed from the west, from the Mount Rainier Scenic Railway.
Mount Rainier is a massive stratovolcano located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle in the state of Washington, United States. It is the most topographically prominent mountain in the continguous United States and the Cascade Volcanic Arc, with a summit elevation of 14,411 ft (4,392 m). Mt. Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, and it is on the Decade Volcano list. Because of its large amount of glacial ice, Mt. Rainier could potential produce massive lahars that would threaten the whole Puyallup River valley.
Photographed in late August 2012, when Washington was experiencing a severe drought. White wildflowers in the foreground and low clouds on a brilliant blue sky. This is not one of the classic views of Mount Rainier, but one that has a natural beauty of its own.
Nikon D80, Nikkor 50mm/f1.8 lens, ND filter, aperture priority, hand-held from a moving train, with minimal cleanup and post-processing in Photoshop Elements, 2014.
