Description:

I live on the shore of Penn Cove on Whidbey Island, Washington. Across the cove is a commercial mussel farm (Penn Cove Shellfish). This is where a large portion of the mussels consumed in the U.S. come from. Rich in flavor, they melt in your mouth. I kayaked over on a sunny day to paint this. I, like many others, enjoy watching people work and this was very interesting. In early March of every year a Mussel Festival is held in nearby Coupeville (centralwhidbeychamber.com). People get to travel around and judge chowders, watch eating contests, and go out on tours of this mussel farm where the work operation is explained. Lots of fun !
