My Mona Lisa
Drawing - Colored Pencil On Paper
Known for my realistic representational renderings in colored pencil, I wanted to reproduce a classical masterpiece with a renewed fresh technique and explore various aspects of the subject and prove that the boundaries of colored pencil are limitless. To capture the soft luminous glow, many layers of colored pencil were applied using non-directional backward S strokes. Working from light to dark with just the tip of a pencil each section of the drawing was painstakingly worked simultaneously, as apposed to completing one area at a time in order to retain symmetry throughout the drawing. Due to the large scale, the drawing was done from a standing point of view and I had to walk back to see the entire work. In addition, from that distance all creative and proportional decisions were made. Then go back to the drawing and put down what I remember from that distance viewing point. The process is repeated until the drawing is complete. What I did not want to produce was an exact likeness, only my rendition of... My Mona Lisa.
Donna colored pencil drawing "My Mona Lisa" is featured in COLORED PENCIL SOCIETY OF AMERICA, CPSA Signature Showcase book containing 100% colored pencil artwork by 177 signature members.
