Description
BALLET STUDENT AT HER DANCE CLASS. Title: MYSTIC BALLERINA I consider this pastel to be my Mona Lisa. I say this because I don't know who the girl in the painting is nor does anyone else. I planned to create a large 53x41 pastel from a photograph I had taken of her during her ballet class sometime during the 1980's. Not long after the this photo was taken I moved to another home and forgot about this photograph. In the late 90's I discovered the photo in a box of papers and decided to create the pastel you see here. I decided that the background was to empty so I created two surreal dancers from my imagination. After this pastel was completed it was exhibited in the Jessie Besser Art Museum in Alpena MI. and the GFAC Art Center in Flint MI. The GFAC was located only a short distance from the Pelio Ballet School where I created my photograph of the mystery girl. All this time I wondered who this girl was after so many years had past. When I created pastels from my photos of the ballet I didn't take names because I didn't have time. With so many dancers my main concern was to snap off as many photographs as time would permit. This was a very large class under the direction of the great ballet master Jacob Lascu. During the members art show at the GFAC in Flint MI. I invited Mrs. Pelio the owner of the Pelio Ballet School hoping that she would remember who this girl was from the 1980's. The owners daughter Lisa came to the show and informed me that Mrs. Pelio had died and now she was the owner of the school. Lisa told me that she didn't know who the girl was because the school had thousands of students over the past 25 years. To this date I have no idea who the MYSTIC BALLERINA is or if she will ever be found. This original pastel is for sale. Call or e-mail. This very large 53 wide x 41 high pastel has a Gold Frame. It will be shipped in UV Plexiglass with Archival Mounting Price: $15,000.00. (More of my award winning ballet paintings can be viewed here at FAA.
