Nancy Morgan Hart (1735-1830) was a heroine of the American Revolutionary War. According to folklore a group of Tory (the term Tory or Loyalist was used in the American Revolution to include those who remained loyal to the British Crown) soldiers came to her house looking for food and demanded she cook for them. While they were drinking and eating she pushed their guns through a hole in the wall of her cabin. She grabbed the last gun and them not to move. Two ignored her threats so she shot and killed them. The remaining men were held captive until her husband and neighbors arrived. Her husband wanted to shoot the soldiers, but she demanded that they were hanged. They were hanged on a nearby tree. There are many variations of this legendary story.
