Nautilus Sea Shell

Some gifts of nature are so beautiful they deserved to be treasured and displayed like the works of art they are. Such is the case with the Nautilus shell.
According to Wikipedia, "Nautilus" is the common name of pelagic marine mollusks of the cephalopod family Nautilidae."
As an animal I'm afraid the Nautilus isn't much to look at, in fact I dare say it's downright ugly. But as with most of us humans, it's real beauty is on the inside.
You've undoubtedly seen images of this shell bisected. The stripes on the outside of the shell help to provide camouflage in the animal's natural environment.
I've chosen to paint my shell displayed as a specimen on a glass rod as you might see it in a natural history museum. I like that because I think the shell has an innate sculptural quality.
I hope you like it.
