Near-death Experience, Heartbeat Trace
Science Photo Library
Photograph - Photograph
Near-death experience. Heartbeat trace recorded from left to right over time, showing a normal heartbeat (left) ceasing (flat line), followed by the resumption of electrical activity in the heart (right). This represents the phenomena where some people who have been pronounced clinically dead, or who are very close to death, return to full consciousness and report their experiences. These phenomena include detachment from the body, a sense of levitation, extreme serenity and the experience of absolute dissolution.
