Nelsons View Of Freedom
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
This painting, "Nelson's Vision of Freedom" is of the view of Table Mountain and the city of Cape Town, from Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for many years. Symbolically, the mist from the waves create a rainbow, foretelling the "Rainbow Nation." which President Mandela came to symbolize.
This painting creates a sense of anticipation as the expectancy of freedom looms ever closer.
The sunset provides bright points of light on the powerful waves as they crash on the shore. The light also falls on the clouds above Table Mountain, locally called the "Tablecloth," as they fall gently in the recesses below. The lights of the city are just beginning to dance on the horizon.
What a scene this must have been as Nelson Mandela and the rest of his fellow political prisoners boarded the ship to Cape Town, free at long last!
