Description
New Bedford is a city in Bristol County, Massachusetts, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 95,072,[3] making it the sixth-largest city in Massachusetts. New Bedford is nicknamed "The Whaling City" because during the 19th century, the city was one of the most important, if not the most important, of whaling and fishing ports in the world, along with Nantucket, Massachusetts and New London, Connecticut.[4] The city, along with Fall River and Taunton, make up the three largest cities on the South Coast region of Massachusetts. The Greater Providence-Fall River-New Bedford area is home to the largest Portuguese-American community in the United States

New Bedford is one of our favorites places, we studied with Louis Sylvia for over five years, so we spend a LOT of time there. We have seven of his paintings five in Oil, two watercolor. Three of them are of the Morgan, one at sea, the other coming into New Bedford and one alongside the dock at the foot of Center Street. He Painted Many subjects. But was most noted for his whaling ships, especially the Morgan, which he had worked on as a cabin boy. While He Worked on the Morgan, he made hundreds of sketches. He has is paintings in many museums around the world, including The Louvre, listed in Who's Who, for years as one of the Ten Top Marine Artists in the world.... So really Enjoyed seeing your BEAUTIFUL Photograph of the shoreline in New Bedford, it's tonal range, color and . . . the subject ... made it one of my favorites.... Out of hundreds of images I have looked at today ...
