Description
A poster for the Golden Anniversary of the New Mexico State Police. Fifty years of service from 1935 to 1985. In 1935 when the State Police were organized, there was only paved road in New Mexico. That was Route 66. They were not issued police cars, but given Harley-Davidson Motorcycles to ride.
If they stopped a driver for DWI and arrested them, they either handcuffed them and hauled them in on the back of the Harley, on gravel or dirt roads. If the driver was too drunk to haul on the Harley they would handcuff them to a fence post and radio for the Sheriff to come pick them up.
