Nike At The Ledge
Painting - Sharpie On Paper
Nikes are common in classical Greek sculpture. The Nike is a female statue carved in honor of a personification of victory. Their titles are "Nike at Delphie", "Nike at Samonthrace", and so on in that fashion. This is a woman who has just passed the point of no return regarding her decision to fall off of a ledge. The tilt and athletic structure of her figure suggest a marble Nike sculpture.
*artist's note: Nike at Samonthrace is my all time favorite sculpture, followed by bird. This image was made and sold while I was in undergrad school at Jacksonville University, growing tired of Art History but still immersed in it. It was a fun little side project.
