Nikolai Zinin, Russian Chemist

Nikolai Nikolaevich Zinin (1812-1880), Russian chemist. Zinin worked in the area of organic chemistry, and is remembered for his role in identifying the chemical aminobenzene (aniline) through what is now known as the Zinin reaction. Zinin was elected to the St Petersburg Academy of Sciences. From 1868 to 1877, he was the first president of the Russian Physical and Chemical Society. One of his students in St Petersburg was a young Alfred Nobel.
