North Channel Reflections
Painting - Oil / Canvas
An American landscape north of Manitoulin Island. The rain had just finished, creating a varnish like finish on these rocks as I paddeled my canoe from island to island in this bay of reflective waters. The area is called Bay of Isles for the many rocky islands that are located there. Accessible only by boat, mostly from Whitefish marina, the bay is home to many cottages and tourist inns some dating back to the early part of the 1900's. Just south east of Manitoulin Island is Killarney Provincial Park with its white quarts mountains, Canada's famed Groupe of Seven artists were instrumental in the creation of this magnificent landscape by petitioning the the government of the day to preserve its beauty as a park. Today one can indulge in a gastronomic delight of locally caught and batterd whitefish served hot in the small townsite of the park.
