( Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved ) There is plenty of history in the old Ohio River town of Rabbit Hash and there are plenty of signs to prove it. On top of the famous general store is a sign saying it has been there since 1831. Being too close to the banks of the river, it has survived many floods since then. Maybe that's why Kentucky's largest winery, the famous Elk Creek Vineyards recently added a wine-tasting room and gift shop just above the antique shop. Hopefully the river will never get as high as it did in 1884, 1913 and 1933. So the next time you take a trip back in time for some history and nostalgia in Rabbit Hash, you can also enjoy some of Kentucky's finest wines. Because as this sign near the steps going up clearly says, the Wine Store is ... Now Open.
