Brooklyn's Ocean Parkway, which includes a walking and bike path, was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same architect who designed New York City's Central Park. The Parkway is a broad boulevard five miles long starting at Prospect Park and terminating at Coney Island. It was completed in 1880 and includes what was the nations first bike path. Until the 1970's it also had a bridle path but that was paved over due to zoning changes.
