This photo, with Picasso's signature & nude illustration, is "tucked" just inside the small but famous cafe/bar/hotel at a cozy beach town on the Mediterranean coast.
In the early 1900's, young starving artists like Picasso, Matisse, Magritte, Dufy, Braque & Dali would swap their early works with the sympathetic art-loving patron, allowing the rag-tag bunch of creatives to earn their room & board.. Eventually as word got around, more artists came & in time a collection of over 2,000 works accumulated.
Many of these can be seen in the hotel today for the simple price of a room. Paintings literally cover the walls in the cafe & hallways. Of course, you won't find the most famous of these here now. But what fun..to enter the Time-Capsule! You can lose yourself in a 'wall-to-wall' .. room-to-room swirl of styles, colors, thoughts and moods of those who came before us...
This photo was taken with permission of the hotel owner.. a descendant of that first art patron, here with Pablo.. who had a vision of his own.
