Description:
I went camping for the first time in October of 2006 in Garner State Park, TX. It was on this trip that I realized that not all of Texas looks like the stereotypical fields of bluebonnets and prickly pear cactus that we are taught to associate with the state. Thus, just as people from outside of Texas often grow up with the misconception that all Texans ride horses and speak with a southern drawl, even we Texans can fall prey to stereotyping our own state. This photo, depicting the river that runs through the park and Old Baldy rising up in the background, will always remind me of my first camping experience and my first realization of a landscape that breaks the Texas stereotype.
