Old School House
Photograph - Photography/ Digital Art
A photo of an 1800's school house. The Log School House is located on Fourth Street in Bardstown, Kentucky (Nelson County).
The Log School House was constructed in the 1800's, and it was restored as a DAR bicentennial project. It is located next to the Pioneer Cemetery. The quality of facilities at one-room schools varied with local economic conditions, but generally, the number of children at each grade level would vary with local populations. Most buildings were of simple frame construction, some with the school bell on a cupola. In the Midwest, sod construction was also used, as well as stone in areas such as portions of the southwest where trees were scarce. I have added effects and textures to give the image the look of a painting.
