Opposum anatomy. 18th-century journal page illustrating various aspects of the anatomy of a male opposum. At upper right is the external appearance of its genitals. The internal anatomy, including the kidneys, is down left. At lower right are front and rear views of its penis. This page is from volume 5 of the 1734 edition of 'The Philosophical Transactions', an abridged collection of papers from the Royal Society. In these abridged collections, artworks from several different papers would be included on a single page. The papers in this collection were all published in 'Philosophical Transactions' in the period 1703 to 1712.
