Description
The visual binary star Almach, also known as Gamma Andromedae, is the third brightest star in the constellation of Andromeda. Although Almach is a triple star system, the third component is too faint to be seen. The major component of the system, Almach A, is an orange giant star (spectral type K3 II). Almach B is a smaller, greenish star (spectral type AOp), which shows up with a blue tinge in this photograph. Almach is located 260 light-years from Earth.
