This picture was taken in the house where I used to live in Kaneohe, Hawaii. I love the delicate yet strong orange red color of this orchid with the greens and browns in the background. The place I lived was a big house with interesting architecture like a tree house and amazing lighting and ambiance even though it was never finished completely and my roof in my room leaked everywhere except for the center of the room because my landlord never fixed my roof. But I still loved the house because it is a unique creation in itself and I had the opportunity to live there. My landlord's wife grew these orchids and they were all beautiful and she let me take their pictures. This was one of the days when lighting was perfect when I went downstairs and I was able to capture this one in full bloom with the perfect shades and shadows. I have had more blessed days in my life than I admit... These orchids inspire me to be humble and down to earth, delicate yet strong, to survive in where life has allowed me to be...
orchidaceae are cosmopolitan, occurring in almost every habitat apart from glaciers. the world's richest concentration of orchid varieties is found in the tropics, mostly asia, south america and central america, but they are also found above the arctic circle, in southern patagonia, and even two species of nematoceras on macquarie island, close to antarctica.
