A 360 degree panorama of Orford, Orford Ness and Orford Castle. Orford is situated on the east coast of England in the county of Suffolk and was once a thriving port, exporting wool to Europe. The castle was built by King Henry the second between 1165 and 1173. The curtain walls have been 'recycled' and all that remains is the impressive Keep or Tower. Orford Ness also has a long history, this long spit of land was the place that radar was developed during the second world war. The military continued to use the site after the war and it was were triggers for nuclear bombs were developed. The site has a much more peaceful role now and is managed and conserved by the National Trust as an internationally important site for nature conservation. It contains a significant portion of the European reserve of vegetated shingle habitat, which is internationally scarce, highly fragile and very easily damaged. Together with Havergate Island the site is a designated National Nature Reserve.
The original TIF file of this 16 shot montage is over 3.5 metres in length and 663MB in size. Therefore it has had to be reduced in size to comply with FAA's upload limits. Anyone wanting a full size print can contact me via FAA.
