My Impressions of Wonderful Creations
- Blessings in Beauty Surround Us...
..........................................................
The Plant on the right side is the Organ Pipe Cactus, they are 8-12 wide and remind us of "Blooming Onions."
.......................................................
This was right alongside my Campsite in the ALAMO CAMPGROUND, generally we prefer a more primitive experience in National Parks, then in the campgrounds set up for RVs... Though they have no electricity, we have Solar Panels on our Van, charging two batteries. They can run our computer, a refrigerator, light, so we can even watch movies at night. Alamo has only four tent-only sites that are surrounded by a quiet desert landscape. Water is not available and fires are not permitted. It is a first-come, first-serve only. Camping permits are $8.00 per night. Holders of the Senior or Access Pass receive a 50% discount on camping.
................................................
We like to go to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument from September to May as it is cooler then, and there are fewer tourists at that time. Although the influx of Snow Birds means more seniors in the park. As seniors we both have had a National Park Senior Pass for decades. We both bought one as they are only $10 for a lifetime. (Guess the Govt feels as taxpayers we have paid for our use long ago.) You can go to any National Park, Monument, Forest, etc and daily admission is covered. It does not cover camping, but there is a 50% discount for seniors.
.............................................
Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, a U.S. National Monument located in extreme southern Arizona which shares a border with the Mexican state of Sonora. The park is the only location in the United States where Organ Pipe Cactus grows wild. Along with Organ Pipe, many other types of cacti, as well as other desert flora native to the Sonoran Desert region grow here. The Park is a beautiful preservation of the American Southwest.
........................
Land for the graded road through the Monument was donated by the Arizona state legislature to the federal government during Prohibition knowing that the north-south road would be improved and make contraband alcohol easier to import from Mexico. In 1937 the land was officially opened as a national monument.
........................
At the north entrance of the park is the city of Why, Arizona; the town of Lukeville, Arizona, sits at the park's southern border. Lukeville is a border crossing point to Sonoyta, Sonora, Mexico.
........................
On August 9, 2002, Ranger Kris Eggle was shot and killed by a suspected Mexican drug smuggler during a US Border Patrol operation. The visitor center has been named in his honor.

Bob, Remarkable scenic photo taken out in the plains, fantastic detail in the foreground with amazing clarity throughout the whole photo. The photo is so clear I feel like I can walk right into this photo and start to wander around. Great depth as the mountain view pulls you deeper into the photo and takes you up the mountain and into that gorgeous blue crystal blue sky. Excellent photo, favorite, voted, google, tweet and FB promoted
Bob Johnston replied:
Clarity comes from using a tripod. Then, creating RAW images with my Nikon. They are much like a negative, with a lot of detail in shadows and highlights. Greater than the capacity of an image to hold. Many use HDR in an attempt to compensate for the range. But, to me it is much simpler to do int in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Making the best possible in LR, then copy to Photoshop, and capture and area like the Mountain. Adjust it for best shadow detail, etc. Then capture the sky, adjust it. Capture the ground cover, adjust it. Capture the Organ Pipe Cactus and adjust it, etc, etc... Until Ive got what I want through out the image.

Bob Johnston replied:
One of the best months to go is March... :) Be prepared to be stopped if you go in a vehicle like a Van or RV and they cant see into it. We have been stopped in both, the Border Patrol and DOT patrol the road heavily due to Illegal and drug traffic. But they only held us up a few minutes. One time they stopped us to ask if we had seen a specific vehicle. It had been involved in a hit and run.

Beautiful warm light on the grass and mountains!

Notice how long the shadows of the cactus are, they are longer than the cactus is tall. :) Sun was almost down below the Horizon.
