How very moving your artwork is! The lighting and expression on her face is priceless!

Joyce Owens replied:

Thanks very much, Carolyn. I appreciate your comment!

Joyce . . . (as I try to hold back tears) In your work, I see imprisoned spirits of the walking dead, a time of unrest. Pain, fear, strength, determination, self control and unrequited love. But above all and in spite of, I see pride and joy. Your use of grays with a hint of color, add to the perceived. pure genius! Oh, I almost forgot why I stopped by. Thanks for stopping by my page.

Joyce Owens replied:

Hi Reggie! What a beautiful statement. I am honored by your words. Thank YOU so much for stopping by. Sure I'll see you soon!

wow this is amazing! i really do respect your work.

Joyce Owens replied:

Elliot: I appreciate your comment. Thank you so much!

Joyce, she speaks eloquently in her silence. Excellent work.

Joyce Owens replied:

Hey Ginger...thank you!

These beautiful and elegant portraits are straightforward in their presentation of the subject matter. They remind me of the HBO special a couple of years ago where actors read from old slave journals. Poignant, honest, straightforward.

Joyce Owens replied:

Thanks, Kevin. You are speaking of the Slave Narratives, I think...this woman is from a series of photos by W.E.B. DuBois of middle class African Americans shown in 1900 at the Paris Exposition to fight stereotyping and racism. I started painting them because racism and stereotyping continues more than a century later...
