Ovary. Light micrograph of a section through the whole ovary. The cortex (outer region) contains a large corpus luteum (yellow) and numerous follicles (purple) at various stages of development. The corpus luteum is the reorganised collapsed follicle after ovulation. Highly coiled blood vessels (red) are present in the medulla of the ovary and enter at the hilum (center right). Magnification: x 1.5 when printed at 10 centimetres wide
