Lucerne is a famous tourist city, located in the north-central part of Switzerland, part of the area of the country which speaks German. The city is a part of the Canton of Lucerne, which surprisingly is part of the district having the same name. The city is famous since it is located on the shore of Lake Lucerne, and is also the starting point for the mountain peaks located in the Alps of Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi. Inside the city, there is a beautiful bridge called the Chapel Bridge, located across the Reuss River. The bridge is a famous landmark for the city.
From Lucerne to reach Mount Pilatus, one can reach through a combination of taking a bus to Kriens, take a gondola from there followed by a cable car that finally takes you to Mount Pilatus. Kriens is easily reached through a bus from the Lucerne train station. Once on the gondola, there are some great views, such as this view of a town below.
