Rocky Mountain National Park in northern Colorado is the primary home for a rare and brilliantly-colored fish, the Greenback Cutthroat Trout. One of the best spots to find these beauties is in Lawn Lake, a spectacular spot about six miles up from the Roaring River trailhead in the Mummy Range. Hiking down one day from Crystal Lake, which is another mile up the trail, I encountered these fishermen packing up their gear. At an elevation of nearly 11,000 feet above sea level, the diffuse sunlight did little to warm the cold mountain air.
