A view of Honolulu, on Oahu windward cost, from the Pali Lookout.
This is an important pass between the leeward and wayward sides of the island. It is also the site of a very bloody battle called the Battle of Nuuanu. Kamehameha I, in 1795 sailed from Hawaii with an army of 10,000 warriors. Here a pivotal battle with Kalanikupule took place and 400 soldiers were driven off the cliffs to their deaths 1,000 feet below
Superstition related to the area; One involves a Mo’o wahine or lizard women that stays around the pass. She is said to take the form of a beautiful woman that will lead male travelers to their death plunging off the cliffs.
