Patriotic Honey Salesman
Photograph - Photograph
This patriotic vendor of tupelo honey was in business on the side of the road leading from the mainland of Florida, between Eastpoint and Apalachicola, to St. George Island (just before the bridge).
Tupelo honey is the only honey that will not crystallize and, because of the specific ratio of its different sugars, the only honey which some diabetics can eat.
This unique honey is a specialty of northwest Florida, whose Apalachicola, Chipola, Ochlocknee, and Choctahatchee River basins, where the white tupelo (Nyssa Ogeche) grows in abundance, are the only places in the world where certified Tupelo honey is produced commercially.
