Peace Like A River

This piece of art was inspired by a lyric in the song "It is Well with My Soul" by Horatio G. Spafford. -Within a 3-year period of time all five of Horatio's children died. His son died to scarlet fever in 1870, and two years later, in 1873, his four daughters were killed in a terrible ship wreck. It was after the death of his four daughters that Horatio wrote this famous song. Though his heart was overwhelmed with grief, he still had faith that God was with him and would sustain him with His peace. The song begins with this lyric: "When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul."
God gives us this promise in the Bible: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7
